Rex has started the new financial year on a high with record passenger numbers and revenue across its domestic and regional networks in July 2022 and marked its 20th anniversary on 2 August for double the celebration.
Rex’s domestic network recorded a pre-audited base passenger revenue of $13.6 million in July 2022, almost double the previous three months’ monthly average of $6.87 million.
On regional routes, Rex’s July 2022 revenue and passenger numbers were almost identical to pre-pandemic levels in July 2019.
Rex Executive Chairman Lim Kim Hai attributed the airline’s “phenomenal performance” to recent agreements inked with several travel agency groups and corporate accounts.
“These outstanding achievements are a timely reward to the Rex family as it celebrates its 20th anniversary, and I would like to congratulate and thank each and every team member for their contributions towards our collective success,” he said.

Mr Lim added that these results accelerated the introduction of additional aircraft to the Rex domestic fleet with the debut of both the airline’s seventh Boeing 737-800NG aircraft and the Melbourne-Devonport route later in August.
“Rex is the only airline in Australia, and perhaps only one of five in the world that has not made an operational loss since 2003 up to COVID,” Mr Lim said.
“With such financial and operational prowess, we look confidently ahead in this financial year as we turn the corner on these devastating COVID years.”
