The boutique, 32-room hotel Basq House, on Bundjalung Country in Byron Bay, is set to open in Autumn, 2024.

The property, which will be operated by locally based and independent hotel management company Jeremy & Jones, aims to be a “discrete haven for travellers,” and is for “those who seek sanctuary rather than to be seen,” according to an official launch statement.

“Our remit was to deliver an authentic hotel with soul and one that stays true to its location,” says David Jones, Director of Jeremy & Jones, the duo responsible for launching Elements of Byron resort.

David, President of Destination Byron, Byron’s local tourism association, says the continued appeal of Byron shire, which attracts 2,210,000 annual visitors, lies  in the town’s unique blend of slow, nurturing and vibrant experiences.

“With Basq House we will place a significant emphasis on strong placemaking, hotel interiors, sensory inputs such as light, sound and smell, out of guest room experiences and the delivery of pre-emptive service.”

About Basq House

Located  in the heart of Byron’s village centre, guests will be well positioned to explore the nearby hinterland, peruse Byron’s lively restaurant scene, or immerse in the quintessential beach culture of the region.

Design elements include a distinct indoor-outdoor aesthetic. The reception area doubles as a bar, with a generous, speakeasy-style Lounge Room that flows through to the outdoors. The Library will feature bespoke floor-to-ceiling bookcases and shelves filled with books, low-slung sofas and a large open fireplace for the cooler months. A central swimming pool will be surrounded by landscaped gardens, where guests can relax on custom cabanas and sun loungers.

These free flowing communal spaces are at the heart of the House, with an aim to encourage interaction and connection among guests. .

Meanwhile a skylit feature staircase will lead to the two floors of guest rooms, some with balconies and some that overlook the pool, while others will offer views over Marvel Street or Fletcher Lane. All rooms have been designed with high ceilings, a soft colour palette, and natural materials.

Taking a holistic approach to health and wellness in a region renowned for a focus on wellbeing, the hotel’s rooftop will be a space to retreat to for reflection and rejuvenation. By day, there will be zones for yoga, meditation and personal training sessions; and by dusk, it will transform into a space for sunset drinks and star gazing for hotel guests only.

The hotel will also offer a multi-level wellness facility with infrared saunas, ice plunges, flotation tanks, massage treatments and more.

It is scheduled to open in Autumn, 2024.
