Auckland Airport welcomes first 5-star & indigenous-led design hotel to the precinct

Te Arikinui Pullman Auckland Airport Hotel is the first 5-star property to open in the airport precinct, ideally located just 100m from the international terminal for long-haul travellers.

Te Arikinui Pullman Auckland Airport Hotel is the first 5-star property to open in the airport precinct, ideally located just 100m from the international terminal for long-haul travellers.

It’s the latest in the Accor portfolio for New Zealand with an architecturally striking façade that includes cultural elements unique to the local iwi of the Tainui waka.

From the hotel’s name – gifted by the Maori King, Kiingi Tuheitia Pootatau Te Wherowhero VII – to its distinctive three-point star shape and exterior and interior cultural designs, Te Arikinui Pullman Auckland Airport Hotel expresses the significance of its location.

Jointly owned by Auckland Airport and Tainui Group Holdings, the hotel is shaped by a ‘Sea to Sky’ design concept inspired by the journey of the people of Tainui waka who arrived at Manukau Harbour around 1350.

Its cultural design elements were created by Renata Te Wiata (Ngaati Mahuta), Carving Manager of Waikato Tainui, and are inspired by five taniwha that provided directional guidance and protection on the original voyage.

The 311-room luxury hotel boasts an interior that is uniquely Aotearoa and unlike any other hotel in the world.

Onsite amenities include the Te Kaahu bar, restaurant and lounge with runway views; a gym; meeting rooms and a grab-and-go eatery, Kuriri Cafe.

“It is incredibly exciting to welcome this architectural landmark to our hotel portfolio. This hotel is a first in its class example of indigenous cultural design,” he said.

“We are already seeing strong interest and demand for Te Arikinui Pullman Auckland Airport Hotel, offering guests exceptional premium hospitality experiences alongside a stunning fusion of cultural and superior design.”
