The Lux Collective has just launched a new five-star boutique hotel brand called SALT, a brand that wants to take a “humanistic approach to hospitality”, targeting the “culturally curious”.

SALT is coming soon to Asia, the Indian Ocean, Africa and the Middle East with the first property to open in Palmar, Mauritius in November 2018.

This will be followed by SALT Wolong, Sichuan, China set to open in 2020 on the edge of the wild panda reserve.

The brand wants to take guests to people – not just places.

The design of each hotel will take inspiration from local surroundings to give guests a true sense of place.

SALT is also an advocate of slow food and ecotourism. Every SALT hotel will have its own farm so guests can eat what is in season.

Where possible, SALT hotels will source everything locally while prioritising fair trade, organic, non-toxic, and limit energy, waste and emissions. There will be no buffets or single-use plastics.

Wellness is a top priority so SALT hotels will have their own swim and run clubs, yoga on the SALT Farm and trekking.

True to its name there will also be a signature salt room with salt-based remedies and spa treatments.

SALT’s CEO Paul Jones said SALT was born from a demand for a “humanistic approach to hospitality.

“In creating SALT, I believe we can help facilitate the connections and create meaningful experiences for our guests and the communities in which we operate. “

Outside the hotel, every guest will be equipped with the tools to get off the beaten path and behind the scenes.

Guests will be handed a unique guidebook written and photographed by locals with illustrated maps, a local SIM card and a choice of transport – bicycles or convertible comfort cars.

“The possibilities for contribution and collaboration are endless, and I think this is just the beginning of something very special indeed,” CEO Paul Jones said.
