Elon Musk goes cruising: RCG beams Starlink space-age internet

Royal Caribbean Group has announced a space-age, industry-first partnership with entrepreneur Elon Musk’s SpaceX Starlink for out-of-this-world internet service across the entire RCG fleet, revolutionising connectivity at sea starting with Celebrity Cruises.

The high-speed, low-latency connectivity will offer an enhanced onboard experience for guests and crew fleetwide, making the Group the first in the cruise industry to adopt the Starlink technology.

The groundbreaking Celebrity Beyond will be the first ship to offer the service from 5 September 2022, followed by all Edge Series ships (Celebrity Edge, Celebrity Apex and Celebrity Beyond) by the end of the year.

The fleetwide installation is slated to be completed by the first quarter of 2023.

Aussie cruisers will have the chance to experience the transformational internet service when Celebrity Edge debuts in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific for the 2023-2024 season.

RCG President and CEO Jason Liberty said the faster and more reliable internet will provide game-changing internet connectivity on board its ships, allowing passengers and crew to remain connected to work, family and friends – no matter where they are in the world.

“It will improve and enable more high-bandwidth activities like video streaming as well as activities like video calls,” he said.
