The Cook Islands has removed all COVID-19 requirements for travel and entry to the South Pacific paradise, signalling the island nation is back in business and ready to welcome all holidaymakers with extra flights to Rarotonga from late October 2022.

With travel now back to pre-pandemic status, Cook Islands Prime Minister Mark Brown said: “The removal of these final restrictions means as a country, we are sending a signal to the world that we are serious about getting back to business and we want our people to live normal lives without unnecessary government restrictions.”

The Cook Islands reopened to Australian visitors on 13 April and the latest news heralds the final dismantling of pandemic restrictions to allow for the nation’s full tourism recovery.

Cook Islands Tourism Corporation GM Australasia Graeme West said the move was fantastic news for the country’s tourism industry, which is vital to the economy and suffered during the pandemic.

“Now is the time to book if you want to travel to our island paradise in the next six months,” he said.

“Rarotonga and Aitutaki are looking stunning and Cook Islanders are waiting with their usual warm welcome for all our visitors.”

He noted that extra flights from late October have been added to satisfy strong demand from New Zealand and Australian visitors.

Aussie holidaymakers can fly to Rarotonga via Auckland with Air New Zealand and Jetstar with direct Sydney to Rarotonga services with Air New Zealand to resume later this year.
