Lights, camera, conservation: Intrepid partners with Documentary Australia

Intrepid Travel has joined forces with Documentary Australia, the only independent not-for-profit organisation supporting documentary filmmakers in Australia, in a groundbreaking partnership aimed at raising awareness and inspiring action on urgent environmental issues.

Intrepid’s latest collaboration for good seeks to harness the power of documentary storytelling to address pressing global concerns.

Intrepid Travel and Documentary Australia’s three-year partnership will focus on supporting climate change documentaries under the Environmental Accelerator program. This program represents the next phase of Documentary Australia’s commitment to using storytelling to drive public action in the environmental sphere.

Building on the success of their Environmental Incubator program, which guided 19 films in developing impactful climate action strategies, this collaboration aims to engage audiences on a larger scale.

Leigh Barnes, Chief Customer Officer at Intrepid Travel, explains, “We are thrilled to be working with Documentary Australia to educate and inspire audiences in addressing environmental issues. We know how powerful films can be in communicating the damaging effects of climate change and compelling audiences to take action.”

Intrepid Travel’s dedication to environmental documentaries is not new. The Melbourne-based company previously supported the production of Damon Gameau’s acclaimed film ‘2040,’ which explores various climate change solutions.

The collaboration resulted in the Intrepid Foundation raising nearly $700,000 to support the Marine Permaculture climate change solution, explicitly targeting the restoration of kelp forests to combat global warming.

Partnerships and Development Director at Documentary Australia, Sharlene Dadd, said: “We are so proud to partner with Intrepid Travel, the world’s largest travel B Corp and leader in sustainable experiences.

“Together with Intrepid and our other program partners, we hope to reach new audiences and engage them with powerful stories to inspire connection with the environment, learning and opportunities to take action.”
