More Asia! Virgin Australia launches two new routes to popular Asian destinations

Virgin Australia expands its international short-haul routes with its first-ever Cairns–Tokyo (Haneda) service and a new direct Adelaide– Bali flight, offering greater connectivity and more choice for Aussies to visit these Asian destinations.

Virgin Australia expands its international short-haul routes with its first-ever Cairns–Tokyo (Haneda) service and a new direct Adelaide– Bali flight, offering greater connectivity and more choice for Aussies to visit these Asian destinations.

For Queenslanders keen on visiting Japan, the brand-new Virgin Australia Cairns-Tokyo (Haneda) route launched with a ‘Hello Tokyo’ sale ahead of taking off from 28 June 2023. Tickets are on sale from $699 return until 20 December 2022.

The year-round, daily Cairns-Tokyo (Haneda) service will operate on new Boeing 737-8 aircraft, which will reduce emissions by up to 15 per cent per flight.

The direct flight to Tokyo’s Haneda Airport will add more than 2,000 seats per week to Japan. It will also increase inbound visitors to Cairns by 30,000 every year in a major boost to local tourism.

The highly anticipated route was launched in partnership with the Queensland Government and Cairns Airport through the Queensland Government’s Attracting Aviation Investment Fund.

Virgin Australia Group CEO Jayne Hrdlicka said: “I’m thrilled to announce the launch of our brand-new daily, year-round Cairns-Haneda service with VA77 taking off on 28 June next year.”

“We know the Japanese market is hugely important to trade and tourism in Far North Queensland and the Sunshine State and our service will result in more international visitors arriving in Cairns every year, having a very positive impact on the state’s economy.”

Bali bound

From today, South Australians can enjoy daily direct flights from Adelaide to Bali in peak season and three times weekly in the off-season.

The year-round service will offer 2,464 seats in peak weeks and more than 70,000 seats a year between the two destinations.

It comes as direct flights between Adelaide and Launceston resume on 15 December and Adelaide-Hobart services restart on 16 December.

Adelaide Airport Managing Director Brenton Cox said the airport welcomed Virgin Australia flights to Bali as part of wider strong growth in the airport’s international markets.

“We’re into the very busy peak holiday period and we know there is significant pent-up demand for South Australians wanting to head to holiday destinations such as Bali for the first time in three years,” Mr Cox said.

Virgin Australia resumed flights to New Zealand last month.
