NSW’s #2 airport gets new flights to the Gold Coast

FlyPelican is launching a new direct service between Newcastle Airport and the Gold Coast, offering greater connectivity for travellers in both cities.

FlyPelican is launching a new direct service between Newcastle Airport and the Gold Coast, offering greater connectivity for travellers in both cities.

The route, set to commence on Monday, 24 March 2025, will operate four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

The 90-minute flights will depart Newcastle at 7am, before a quick 30-minute turnaround for the return journey.

FlyPelican will operate the route using a 19-seat Jetstream 32 aircraft, including a complimentary checked baggage allowance.

“FlyPelican are thrilled to expand our network, with our focus on getting local people where they need to go,” said Marty Hawley, CEO of Newcastle-based FlyPelican.

“We are now filling a key gap for travellers to and from the Gold Coast that are in need of a morning departure.”

Newcastle Airport Interim CEO Andrew Warrender welcomed the new route, highlighting the added flexibility and choice for travellers.

“The early morning departure times are particularly beneficial for business travellers, aligning perfectly with our commitment to enhancing connectivity for the Hunter region,” he said. 

“We’re excited to see this route take off and contribute to the continued growth of both Newcastle and Gold Coast airports.”

Gold Coast Airport CEO Amelia Evans also praised the move, noting its role in boosting capacity on the Newcastle-Gold Coast sector.

Launch fares start at $245 one-way, and bookings are available at www.flypelican.com.au or via travel agents.
