The Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) has announced that the 2023 National Travel Industry Awards (NTIA) will be held in Melbourne on 18 November.
For nearly two decades, Sydney has hosted the annual event often described as the travel industry’s night of nights.
“For the first time in nearly 20 years, NTIA will be leaving Sydney and is heading to Melbourne. As the premier awards for the entire country this is an important evolution,” AFTA CEO Dean Long said.
“AFTA wants to give all Australian travel professionals the option to participate and attend and there’s no bigger and better event than NTIA so make sure you mark 18 November in your calendar right now.
“This year will see AFTA hold more events right around the country as we celebrate the return of travel and engage with members and the sector.”

In addition to the change of host city, AFTA said it would shortly release details relating to the five inaugural NTIA Custodians, which will represent different segments of the travel industry: Mobile/Home-based network, Retail Agency, Corporate, Online, Tour Operator, Wholesaler and Cruise and Air.
Prior to the 2022 event, Karryon hosted a lucky bunch of shining stars at the inaugural ‘Glam Club’ event.
Widely considered the major events capital of Australia, Melbourne is no stranger to big occasions.
In December 2022, the Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB) reported Victoria had achieved a 33 per cent increase in economic contribution from secured business events in the 2021/2022 financial year over the previous year.
