NZ set to reopen trans-Tasman bubble from Monday 5 July

The trans-Tasman bubble is set to reopen from next Monday, inviting travellers from VIC, TAS, SA, and ACT back to explore, as long as they show a negative test.

From Monday 5 July, travellers from Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and ACT will be welcomed back to New Zealand.

However, New Zealand will require Australian travellers to produce a negative COVID-19 test at least 72-hours prior to departure.

Travellers must also not have visited New South Wales on or after 11.59pm on June 22, or in Queensland, the Northern Territory, or Western Australia on or after 10.30pm on June 26.

The bubble suspension on travel from these states would remain in place until the situation improves.

Skiers and snowboarders looking to escape to the mountains will be pretty stoked to return to New Zealand from next week, as a recent Antarctic blast has showered parts of the South Island in a generous coating of snow, ready for their arrival.

The announcement comes after New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on Monday foreshadowed the return to state-by-state bubble arrangements after ordering a snap three-day border closure to Australia on the weekend.

“As we assess … you may see different guidance for different states,” she told TVNZ on Monday.

Until the bubble reopens, a reduced number of passenger flights will continue to operate to Australia, ensuring customers currently visiting New Zealand from Australia can return home.
