In an global first, Delta Air Lines’ fast, free Wi-Fi will be available across its international network with the Asia-Pacific region, including Asia, Australia and New Zealand, scheduled to come online from mid-late 2025.
From a nice-to-have to a must-have, sky-high internet connectivity has become a staple of inflight entertainment options.
New-generation satellite tech now enables better coverage, particularly across large bodies of water, such as on trans-Pacific flights.
Fast and free globally
In partnership with T-Mobile, the US carrier aims to offer reliable, streaming-quality onboard connectivity across its entire fleet.
The global service will be available on all Viasat-equipped widebody aircraft, rolling out on a route-by-route basis and starting with France and the US in July 2024.
Rollout timeline
The rollout timeline will continue on other Europe and UK destinations throughout August and September followed by South America and Hawaii in October and Africa by December 2024/January 2025.
Additional routes will be phased in as high-quality, reliable service becomes available.
Since its introduction on domestic routes in 2022, the airline now offers free Wi-Fi for SkyMiles members on around 90 per cent of its 700 domestic mainline aircraft with plans to boost this figure further by the end of the year.
How will it work?
As the service rolls out globally, the international portal will not initially require a SkyMiles membership login to access the service.
Later this year, all Viasat-equipped aircraft will officially convert to the personalised experience via SkyMiles memberships for exclusive onboard experiences and offers.
During the transition period, international flyers can find out if fast, free Wi-Fi is available on their flight at delta.com/wifi or via the app.
