As artificial intelligence rapidly reshapes the world and the travel industry, the Travellers Choice Board recently joined an AI bootcamp facilitated by Transition Level to drill down on the basics and better position them to understand the risks and opportunities of an automated future.
The full-day session shared AI insights and the applications and implications of this technology with board directors and senior management as part of its ‘Travelution‘.
Travellers Choice Managing Director Christian Hunter said the aim was to achieve a standardised level of AI fluency across the board.
“Prior to the bootcamp, board members had different levels of expertise and exposure to AI. Some had undertaken training and engaged in AI research initiatives outside of travel. Others had only encountered the technology sporadically,” he said.

“Travellers Choice has always been at the cutting edge of technology and we are constantly looking at how we can apply new and emerging technology in ways that enhance our value proposition and make a difference to our members.
“By bringing everyone up to the same speed, we are now better equipped to identify the risks and opportunities that AI presents to our company and make strategic decisions based on that enhanced knowledge.”

Transition Level Founder and tech educator Sami Mäkeläinen conducted the session, covering topics such as the nature of AI, current and potential applications and some of the regulatory and ethical issues surrounding the technology.
The AI bootcamp preceded the Travellers Choice Board’s annual full-day strategy session in Perth, where directors reviewed the company’s strategic plans and objectives.
“As always, the ultimate aim is to continually create, protect and return value to our member shareholders,” Hunter said.
