Channel 7 switches on to start selling travel deals

Online Travel Agents have a little extra competition in the market today as Channel 7 moves into the online selling sphere with its own travel deals website.

Online Travel Agents have a little extra competition in the market today as Channel 7 moves into the online selling sphere with its own travel deals website.

This morning, Channel 7 launched what they’re describing as a “market-first e-commerce platform” where travellers can go to, to be “inspired, plan and book a holiday”.

Sounds fairly similar to existing online travel platforms, so what sets 7travel apart?

Whats-the-difference-

Well, unlike some of its competitors, the website has received major publicity this morning as its launch was announced to millions of Sunrise viewers across the country as well as the millions of Seven social media followers.

The well promoted arrival was complimented by the big-name suppliers who are already providing the site with deals, these include Carnival Cruise Line, Tourism and Events Queensland, Destination Gold Coast, Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia, New Caledonia Tourism and Tourism Authority of Thailand.

It also features a range of destination guides advising travellers on the things they can do and see in cities around the world, as well as other important travel information such as the currency they’ll need while visiting.

Despite the number of existing online travel deal websites, Seven’s Chief Revenue Officer, Kurt Burnette, believes that 7travel will survive the competition as it has access to “a high proportion of travel intenders”.

“We will use this enormous scale and influence to inspire through advertising, editorial, integration and Influencers using unmatched power of travel storytelling and content to enable every part of the travel industry.”

Kurt Burnette, Seven Chief Revenue Officer

He continued, saying that 7travel will offer content “at a scale… like no one else has before”.

According to a statement from Channel 7, 7travel represents a significant development in the company’s strategy of providing a single view audience across its channels and driving home through transaction. It builds on Seven’s ‘content everywhere’ strategy, with the brand live across broadcast television, online assets, social video, publishing and live events and activations.
