Qatar Airways restarts double-daily service from Melbourne

Qatar Airways has upped its Melbourne flights schedule to double-daily flights to include an onward leg to Canberra to recommence a daily connecting service between Doha and the Australian capital.

Qatar Airways has upped its Melbourne flights schedule to double-daily flights to include an onward leg to Canberra to recommence a daily connecting service between Doha and the Australian capital.

This network enhancement which began on 1 October, increases the services to 40 Qatar Airways-operated weekly flights to six Australian cities, exceeding the airline’s pre-pandemic gateways and service levels.

The award-winning airline and the Victorian Government signed a strategic agreement to increase connectivity to Melbourne to boost trade and tourism further.

The added daily schedule will be operated by Boeing 777-300ER, featuring the airline’s award-winning Qsuite Business Class.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker said: “Melbourne is the original home for Qatar Airways in Australia, and we are excited to enhance our operations there as a testament to both strong demand and our deep commitment to Australia.”

“The launch of the additional daily flight to Melbourne ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will allow more football fans travel to attend their respective matches.”

Melbourne Airport CEO Lorie Argus said: “There is a huge demand for international travel out of Melbourne.”

“Qatar Airways is already a favourite with passengers heading to the Middle East or Europe. With the airline’s Virgin Australia and Qantas partnerships, we expect these new flights will prove very popular.”

The Canberra service was also originally scheduled to launch on 1 October but was delayed due to an operational issue outside of the airline’s control.
