SHARE HAPPINESS & BULA SPIRIT: On The International Day Of Happiness

In need of some uplifting Fiji vibes in your life right now as we mark March 20 and the International Day of Happiness? Here’s a few lessons from our friends in the Pacific about the big ‘H’ word.

In need of some uplifting Fiji vibes in your life right now as we mark March 20 and the International Day of Happiness? Here’s a few lessons from our friends in the Pacific about the big ‘H’ word.

Happiness may mean something different to each of us but Fijians place importance in humour, resilience and giving back not in financial wealth and daily stresses. So let’s all choose to put our sadness in a locked drawer for a moment and bust out a funky dance to celebrate the day Fijian style.

The ‘BULA’ spirit

Bulanaires Fiji

Happiness in Fiji is witnessed the second you step off the plane and are greeted in the arrivals hall by a hundred ‘BULA’s’. With this welcoming community spirit that embraces visitors like family.

From the moment you touchdown in this idyllic paradise, you’ll find Fijians sharing their happiness with you through warm and infectious smiles, open-armed hugs and innocent humour; it is this ‘Bula Spirit’ that helps makes those living in Fiji some of the happiest people in the world.

No travel? No worries!

You can practice the Bula spirit here at home. Simply slap a giant grin across your face and can choose to radiate joy, love, and compassion, wherever you go!

The Bula spirit can really help put things into perspective. Fijians help redefine what success looks like. The country might not have the newest cards, the latest gadgets or huge houses, but they are rich in so many other ways.

Perhaps we should measure our own success by how intrinsically happy we are, rather than how much we have in the bank?

Instead of aspiring to be billionaires, we should aspire to be Bulanaires…people rich in happiness, sharing that happy energy with others.

“Let’s redefine the concept of what it means to be rich. Wealth comes from being rich in kindness, having stocks in mindfulness and investing in happiness – your own happiness and the happiness of others.”

Happier Together

Happiness Fiji

This year’s theme for International Day of Happiness is ‘Happier Together’, focusing on what we have in common, rather than what divides us.

So, with that in mind, why not try to make a few small changes daily for big rewards overall? We promise you’ll feel so much happier after these little tweaks to your daily schedule.

Sometimes it’s so easy to get swept up the craziness of life, we forget to step back and enjoy the beautiful world we live in.

Simple, conscious actions, such as smiling at someone new, offering a helping hand, picking a flower for a friend or reminding family how much they mean to you, could mean more to them than you could ever imagine.

Humanity needs Bulanaires, more than ever right now, so choose to this outlook today and share your unique type of ‘Bula spirit’ with the world.

Life is better when we do it together!
