Qatar Airways follows leading global airlines with the introduction of electronic bag tags to allow for a more seamless check-in process for its customers and become the first Gulf carrier to add the innovative concept.
Using the Dutch company BAGTAG, Qatar Airways will enable passengers to check in luggage from anywhere using their smartphones, making the process smoother and more efficient.
BAGTAG’s reusable electronic bag tags replace traditional, non-recyclable paper tags, incorporating functional e-paper.
After checking in for flights via the Qatar Airways mobile app, passengers can then digitally label their bags before using the designated bag drop areas at the airport.
The BAGTAG solution skips the airport check-in process entirely, making it easier to proceed on your journey.
QR will also offer a fully customised BAGTAG for its customers, which will be available through select QDF shops later this year.
Coordinated in cooperation with travel tech partner Amadeus, and with software framework supported by the Qatar Airways app, any electronic bag tag device connected to the BAGTAG platform can be used on QR flights worldwide.
QR joins other airlines such as Alaska Airlines, Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian, China Southern, KLM and Air Dolomiti to use the BAGTAG technology, according to its website.
