The future is here: W Sydney reveals official opening date

The hotel that casts a long, curved shadow over Darling Harbour, the W Sydney, has announced it will officially open its doors on 12 October 2023.

The hotel that casts a long, curved shadow over Darling Harbour, the W Sydney, has announced it will officially open its doors on 12 October 2023.

In one of the most highly anticipated hotel openings in Sydney in recent times (who hasn’t walked around Darling Harbour, looked up, and asked themselves when the W will open?), the W Sydney vows to “energise the city” with a blend of W luxury and Aussie “cultural touchstones”.

Boasting ultra-modern (almost futuristic) interiors by London-based Bowler James Brindley, the W Sydney’s public spaces and rooms wouldn’t be out of place in a science fiction film, with room types divided into Wonderful, Fabulous and Spectacular categories.

Creating a “day-to-night dining and social destination”, the hotel will also feature the BTWN bar and restaurant, the vivid blue Living Room, and the double-level rooftop bar 29/30 (that ironically evokes the “seafloor”).

On 29/30’s lower level, guests will find an array of wine and cocktails along with a Basque-inspired tapas menu, while on the upper level, premium cocktails and vintage champagnes by the glass, from Dom Pérignon to Ruinart, amid “yacht-inspired” interiors await.

Under the W Sydney’s domed glass ceiling, the hotel will also offer guests a massive pool and wet area, a modern gym, the AWAY Spa and plenty of event space.

Local flavours

W Sydney says it has teamed up with local artists and designers to bring the W vision to life, with celebrity stylist Jess Pecoraro lending a hand with staff uniforms, Australian-Ukrainian tattoo artist Stanislava Pinchuk creating a “tattoo of stars” for the hotel’s guest room corridors, and muralist Sophi Oldling imprinting her “colourful art” on the walls of BTWN.

Meanwhile, W’s local automotive partner, Genesis Motors, powers a fleet of vehicles in the hotel driveway.

“W Hotels is a brand that was born in New York, but destined for Sydney,” W Sydney General Manager Craig Seaward said.

“The pulse of the city is so aligned with the W spirit – the sense of originality and curiosity, the unique take on luxury, the bold attitude.

“Eclectic and unexpected, this new hotel will be a beacon for the harbour, a hub of constantly evolving experiences and exciting spaces that unfold from morning till late and are deeply connected to the life of the city.

“We can’t wait to share W Sydney with our guests when we open our doors on 12 October.”

W Sydney is now open for guest room and event bookings from 12 October.
