Iconic rail journey The Ghan offers four new Off Train Experiences in the Northern Territory and South Australia and welcomes The Katherine Outback Experience back to enhance the cultural and scenic immersion opportunities for passengers.

The Ghan guests can now choose new Off Train Experiences, including the Standley Chasm Cultural Walk, a Nitmiluk Cutta Cutta Caves or Top Didj Cultural experience and a flight and full-day offering from Coober Pedy to the Painted Hills, William Creek and Lake Eyre.

Located 50km west of Alice Springs, the 4km Standley Chasm Cultural Walk is led by a Western Arrernte community member, while Indigenous artist Manuel Pamkal will host the Top Didj Cultural Experience in Katherine with hands-on activities.

Also in Katherine, the Cutta Cutta Caves tour takes travellers 15m underground for insights into the site’s geological and cultural significance.

The new Coober Pedy: Painted Hills and Lake Eyre Scenic Flight is an optional upgrade featuring the Anna Creek Painted Hills, a recently discovered part of far north South Australia’s Breakaways country.

Returning after a two-season hiatus, The Katherine Outback Experience offers a full day of discovery to experience life on a working cattle station.

Journey Beyond Executive General Manager of Rail David Donald said: “We’re always looking for ways to improve our journeys and guest experiences, which is why we’ve invested in our Off Train Experiences, crafting new ways to connect guests with the country as part of the journey.”
