After taking a 60 per cent stake in JOOB (Jump Out Of Bed) in September 2022, Intrepid Travel has announced it has fully acquired the adventure tourism operator and destination management company (DMC).
Intrepid says the move boosts its commitment to local adventure tourism as it expands its Aussie adventure offering.
Founded in Western Australia, JOOB operates in every Aussie state and territory (except ACT), with depots in Perth, Adelaide, Hobart, Alice Springs and Melbourne, and seasonal operations in Darwin and Cairns.
With the purchase, JOOB’s brands – Inspiration Outdoors and Waratah Adventure Tours – will continue to offer guided, nature-based experiences throughout Australia, now under the Intrepid name.

Last year, Intrepid also acquired Kimberley Wild Expeditions’ assets, including its vehicle fleet and Bungle Bungle Camp lease, boosting its regional capability.
“With this acquisition, we are deepening our investment in walking and trekking experiences, First Nations tourism, and regional product development, aligned to our 2030 growth strategy,” Intrepid Travel Managing Director ANZ Brett Mitchell said.

Intrepid Travel Australia DMC General Manager and JOOB founder Simon Mendelawitz added, “It’s exciting to be part of Intrepid’s continued investment in Australian adventure tourism”.
“I’m proud to be continuing in my role as General Manager, and see strong opportunities for growth, new partnerships, and delivering even more meaningful experiences across the country.”
