Tauck introduces Smaller Group trips capped at just 15 pax as category spikes in popularity

With Tauck’s Small Group trips now accounting for 75 per cent of its non-cruise business, the US company is now leaning into its 'Small is Big' philosophy even more with the debut of new Tauck Smaller Group dedicated land tours and departures in 2024.

With Tauck’s Small Group trips now accounting for 75 per cent of its non-cruise business, the US company is now leaning into its ‘Small is Big’ philosophy even more with the debut of new Tauck Smaller Group dedicated land tours and departures in 2024.

Tauck is piloting the new escorted tour program with 26 Smaller Group departures across seven itineraries in North America and Europe with an average of 15 travellers. In comparison, its Small Group trips average 24 guests per departure.

All 2024 Tauck Smaller Group tours are special departures of existing trips, operating the first three in this style on its America’s Canyonlands, A Week In… Spain and A Week In… Ireland itineraries recently.

Tauck Smaller Group departures for the remainder of 2024 are available on America’s Canyonlands, Best of the Canadian Rockies, Canada’s Capital Cities plus Niagara Falls, Northern Spain, the Rioja Valley & Madrid, A Week In… Spain, Switzerland: Europe’s Crown Jewel and A Week In… Ireland itineraries.

The official program launch will coincide with the company’s 100th anniversary in 2025, expanding to include 124 departures across 12 itineraries in North America, Europe and Africa.

The 2025 Tauck Smaller Group tours will also feature special departures of existing itineraries along with three African safaris where all departures are Smaller Group offerings.

Tauck CEO Dan Mahar said interest in smaller group trips has increased in recent years and with company research showing the optimal small group size is 12-20 travellers, the new Smaller Group offering is right in the centre.

“Although a large segment of our guests remain devoted to our classic group size, we’ve also seen incredible growth in our Small Group departures over the past several years. More recently, some of our guests have shown increasing interest in even smaller group sizes,” he said.

Tauck will run Smaller Group departures on its Great Migration: Tanzania & Kenya safari trip in 2025.

“Our guests want to experience deeper connections with the places they visit and they want more time, freedom and flexibility.

“Smaller groups have access to places and experiences that simply aren’t available to larger groups. On our African safaris, for example, our Smaller Groups stay in cosy lodges and tented camps with limited capacity, minimising disruptions to the wildlife and environment and providing a more authentic experience.”
