Flight Centre Travel Group’s Stage and Screen subsidiary forecasts “a golden era” for sports and entertainment travel in the next decade with forward momentum from record-breaking events, government incentives and new air routes.

Specialising in travel management for the sports, TV, film and entertainment industries, Stage and Screen has revealed key growth drivers in 2025 and beyond in a new Sports & Entertainment Travel Industry Insights 2024 Report.

The economic impact of flights, accommodation and visitor spend from major events attendance, such as Taylor Swift and Coldplay music tours, and international sporting tournaments, like the Australian Open and AFL Grand Final, is well documented and an important segment for travel advisors to be across.

The report shows Australia’s sports sector is set for exponential growth leading up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games with $15 million government investment for the hosting of the 2026 AFC Women’s Asia Cup while the global women’s elite sports industry projected to reach AUD$1.5 billion this year.

The Australian film industry saw a record $809 million from foreign productions in 2023. Stage and Screen forecasts more growth, thanks to the Federal Government’s increased Location Offset rebate to 30 per cent, bringing more Hollywood productions.

This year, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga broke records for being the nation’s most expensive film ever made at $333.2 million, according to the ABC.

A 13.3 per cent rise in international flights and additional routes in the past year to NZ, India and the Philippines will also continue leisure and business travel recovery.

“By unearthing key trends from the latest market research, we can confidently expect strong growth in our travel, entertainment, film and sports industries,” Moon said.
