Australians, get ready for a new service to Vietnam. Vietjet has announced it will commence nonstop flights between Sydney and Hanoi on 8 June this year.

Its seventh route between Australia and Vietnam, the new twice-weekly service will depart Sydney every Thursday and Sunday at 8.30am (local time), arriving in Hanoi at 4pm (local time). 

Return flights will depart the Vietnamese capital on Wednesday and Saturday at 5.10pm (local time) and touch down in the NSW capital at 6.10am (local time). 

In a recent interview with Karryon, Vietjet Group Vice President Nguyen Thi Thuy Binh said along with the Sydney-Hanoi service, there were possibly more new Aussie routes to come for the airline.

“This is the plan for this year. And we hope that we can have good opportunities to open more from Hanoi to another destination as well to connect the two biggest cities of Vietnam with the five biggest cities of Australia,” she said in the interview.

All up, the airline plans to launch 19 new routes in 2024 across Australia, Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia and even Europe, where it is yet to venture.

Today’s news follows the recent announcement of Vietjet’s Melbourne-Hanoi flights, which will commence on 3 June.

To mark its new Sydney to Hanoi route, Vietjet is offering discounted economy seats on all services between Australia and Vietnam for as low as AU$165 one-way, available until 25 March 2024 for travel until 31 October 2024. Check the Vietjet Air app or website for more sale details.

According to Vietjet, the airline carried 25.3 million travellers on 133,000 flights last year, including more than 7.6 million passengers on international flights.

In 2023 alone, it grew its network with 33 international and domestic routes, including five new routes to Australia, where it has a market share of 48 per cent on Australia-Vietnam flights, making it the largest Vietnamese airline operating Down Under.

As well as its Sydney and Melbourne to Hanoi services, Vietjet connects Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney with Ho Chi Minh City.
