Visa moves beyond payments as it looks to become more of a "travel companion"

Visa has launched Visa Destinations, a mobile-first platform offering cardholders curated experiences and exclusive access in 10 locations, including Paris, London, New York and Thailand, with more to come.

Visa has launched Visa Destinations, a mobile-first travel platform offering cardholders curated experiences and exclusive access across 10 global locations with more to follow.

Visa cardholders can now access curated experiences, tastemaker recommendations and exclusive entry in major destinations worldwide as the payments giant repositions itself as a travel companion rather than just a way to pay.

The full lineup spans Paris, London, Dubai, Milan, Rome, Mexico City, New York City, Miami, San Francisco and Thailand with further destinations flagged for later in 2026.

The platform is available exclusively to Visa cardholders through a mobile-first interface, built around why people travel rather than where, whether that’s for food, fashion, sport, or simply wandering for hidden gems.

What cardholders actually get

Once signed up to Visa Destinations, cardholders can layer experiences across dining, entertainment, culture, hospitality, wellness, shopping and transport.

These include Priority Access to the Top of the Rock Observation Deck at Rockefeller Center in New York City and the Musée du Louvre in Paris, alongside dining experiences recommended by local tastemakers.

Premium tiers go further: Visa Infinite and Visa Signature holders are offered enhanced benefits and tailored itineraries.

Visa has signed three global anchor partners: tax-free shopping specialist Global Blue, airline grouping Star Alliance and Trip.com Group.

The Star Alliance tie-up is the one most relevant to Aussies, given several of its 26 member carriers, including Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways and United Airlines, serve Australia and include the destinations on the platform.

Global Blue’s role centres on the tax-free shopping refund process, relevant for Australians spending in fashion capitals such as Paris, Milan and London.

Why Visa is chasing the experience economy

Visa is chasing passion-led travellers with Visa Destinations.

According to Visa research, travellers are increasingly choosing destinations based on passion and purpose rather than geography. In a recent Visa study, 66 per cent of Asia-Pacific consumers intend to travel for global concert tours and 54 per cent for sports events.

Visa Asia Pacific Head of Products & Solutions T. R. Ramachandran said: “Travel demand across Asia Pacific remains strong, but travellers are raising the bar on what they expect from every trip.”

“Our Visa Global Travel Intentions study shows that travellers are more deliberate than ever, prioritising destinations they trust while seeking flexibility and greater ease in planning. Interest in distinctive local experiences continues to grow.

“Visa Destinations is expanding across key global locations, using our insights and network to redefine access to experiences that leave a lasting impression while creating new opportunities for our partners across the travel economy.”

For Aussie travel advisors, the Visa Destinations platform sits parallel to, not instead of, the trip itself: clients still book flights, hotels and transfers, then unlock the experiences via their card. Thailand is the only top Australian outbound destination currently on the list.
