After more than three long years away, Asia travel specialist Wendy Wu Tours has announced it is heading back to China.
China reopened its borders to international travellers in March this year, and pent-up demand for the once-popular destination should provide a springboard for success in the coming years. Enter Wendy Wu Tours.
Resuming their China touring programme, Wendy Wu confirmed to Karryon that its first trip back to the Asian nation would be its China Experience tour departing on 6 August 2023.
Earlier this year, members of the company’s global senior team spent a week travelling around China to ensure everything would be ready for its return.
The group visited Shanghai, Beijing, Xian, Changsha and Zhangjiajie.
With the trip, Wendy Wu also became the first major travel company to test all of the facilities, hotels and attractions its tours will visit upon its return.
Like the first time
“China is well and truly open for international tourists,” Wendy Wu Tours founder Wendy Wu said after the inspection.
“Visiting now, with China having had over three years to rejuvenate and refresh, is like visiting China almost twenty years ago – the attractions and sites are very quiet, and the locals are just so eager and happy to welcome back tourists.”
“The uptake on bookings to China, since China reopened, has been incredibly optimistic, having seen a spike of almost 60 per cent in bookings during March and April.
“This clearly shows that demand is there, and our agent friends are behind us all the way, with trade contributing to over 65 per cent of the bookings to China so far.”
Late last year, Wendy Wu Tours welcomed experienced travel industry sales leader Simon Bell who will be transitioning to the role of Managing Director in the coming months leading operations in the regional market.
