Where will you be for the ANZAC centenary?

Australians will unite on Saturday to mark 100 years of Australian fellowship and sacrifice as they commemorate the centenary of the ANZAC Gallipoli landings.

Australians will unite on Saturday to mark 100 years of Australian fellowship and sacrifice as they commemorate the centenary of the ANZAC Gallipoli landings.

Thousands of Australians have already made the pilgrimage to Gallipoli in Turkey to be part of the Dawn Service on the battlefield where thousands of brave Australians and Kiwis lost their lives.

For those that didn’t receive a ballot to the major event but still wanted to be close to the land have embarked on cruise ships such as MSC Orchestra, which will hold special Dawn Services and commemorative events onboard while sailing around Turkey.

In Australia, gatherings around the country thousands will gather to commemorate grandparents and ancestors that fought bravely and suffered in trenches facing a tough opponent.

If you haven’t planned where you will remember the fallen, here is a list of ANZAC Day commemorations and events around the country:

 

New South Wales

  • There will be a special service at The Cenotaph in Martin Place beginning at 4,15am, with thousands expected to gather in the pre-dawn darkness to pay their repescts. A short sunset service concludes the days commemorations at 5.00pm at the same location.
  • The Anzac Day March commences at 9.00am on the corner of Pitt Street and Martin place, weaving its way through George and Bathurst Streets before ending at Elizabeth Street opposite Hyde Park.
  • In Darling Harbour a 120 metre interactive floating installation called Nomanslanding will commemorate the Anzac centenary, putting a spotlight on the significant role Darling Harbour played as a key loading port during World War One.
  • Sleep out under the stars as the original Anzacs did 100 years ago at Camp Gallipoli. It will be held in Centennial Park on 24 and 25 April.
  • In the Snow Mountains, a special dawn service will be held from 6.00am at Banjo Pateron Park. A march will follow from 9.30am. Berridale will also be holding an Anzac Day March from the town square at 10.45am.

 

Northern Territory

  • The Anzac Centenary Walk will be held in Bicentennial Park, The Esplanade.
  • Darwin North RSL will have a Dawn Service at 6.00am followed by a Diggers Breakfast. There will also be a commemorative event at Two-up North Darwin, RSL.
  • The Cenotaph, O’Shea Terrace, which will open at 5.45am for a 6.00am start. Main Service will commence at Katherine Terrace from 9.20am for 9.40am.
  • In Nhulunbuy there will be a Dawn Service at Gove Boat Club at 5.45 am and an Anzac Day March and Ceremony at The Cenotaph, Arafura Memorial Park from 10.45am.
  • Dawn Service will also be held at Adelaide River War Cemetery; Youth Vigil Palmerston Memorial Park in Palmerston; and Alice Spring RSL.

 

Queensland

  • A special Centenary Dawn Service will be held between 4.30am to 5.30 am on Noosa Main Beach.
  • In Brisbane an ANZAC Day Dawn Service will be held at ANZAC Square from 4.00am to 6.00am.
  • Cairns has an ANZAC Day Service starting at 3.50am to 12.00pm at Cairns Esplanade Cenotaph.
  • Goodna Boat Ramp will have a re-enactment of the Gallipoli Beach Landing from 4.00am.

 

South Australia

  • In Adelaide, the Dawn Service takes place at the South Australian National War memorial from 6.15am.
  • The march follows, from the corner of North terrace and Gawler Place, at 9.30am, heading right down King William Road and concluding with the Cross of Sacrifice.

 

Tasmania

  • In Hobart, The Dawn Service takes place at the Cenotaph on the Queens Domain from 6am.
  • The Anzac Day parade assembles from 9.45am in Macquarie Street and marches from the Town Hall to the Cenotaph.

 

Western Australia

  • Last day to attend the Garrick Theatre’s tribute to those involved in the Gallipoli campaign, as part of 2015’s 100-year commemoration in April. Split in two halves, Garrick Salutes Gallipoli features old-time music hall entertainment and a melodrama.
  • The City of Albany Band and the Albany Sinfonia will hold a special Anzac Centenary Memorial Concert featuring museum from the First World War era.
  • Victoria Park RSL Sub Branch will hold Victoria Park ANZAC Centenary Eve Commemorative Service as well as a free pop-up cinema and vintage food stalls.
  • Albany RSL and Open Access, present a massive wall mural.
  • The Anzac Day Dawn Service in Albany will commence at 5.30am at the Desert Mounted Corps Memorial at Mount Clarence. The Service will be simulcast to the Albany Entertainment Centre on Princess Royal Drive.
  • The Busselton Dawn Service will begin at 5.45am, at the War Memorial. This will be followed by a gunfire breakfast at the RSL rooms on Rosemary Drive, Busselton.The main parade will be held at 9.00am.
  • The Fremantle Dawn Service commences at 5.30am on ANZAC Day and is coordinated by the City of Fremantle in conjunction with the Fremantle Memorial Wardens at Monument Hill War Memorial.
  • This Anzac Day, the Albany Entertainment Centre will again host a free simulcast of the moving Dawn Service held at the Desert Mounted Corps Memorial on Mount Clarence, to mark the 100th anniversary.

 

Victoria

  • Princess Bridge will lined with veterans, bands and more for the annual Melbourne ANZAC Day March. A special feature of the 2015 March will be the place reserved in the March for descendants of Australians and New Zealanders who served in World War One.
  • Port Melbourne RSL members have organised a special Port Melbourne ANZAC Day Commemoration Service to commence at 9.45am. It will be held at Memorial Fountain on the corner of Beach and Bay Streets, Port Melbourne.
  • Following Dawn Services and ANZAC marches, The Salvation Army Melbourne will hold an ANZAC Salute Concert. Starting at 3.00pm to 4.30pm at Melbourne Town Hall, it will feature performances by the Salvation Army Melbourne Staff Band, Silvie Paladino, City of Melbourne Highland Pipe Band and Australian Children’s Choir.
  • The city of Bendigo will hold a special half-day event starting from 5.30am to midday. Held at Cenotaph, View St and Soldiers Memorial Institute, Pall Mall Bendigo it will incorporate a March from Soldiers Memorial Institute, Pall Mall to Centotaph, View Street; Dawn Service at the Cenotaph, View Street, Bendigo; a gunfire breakfast; and a March for descendants.
