You beauty! Bonza gets green light to fly

Subject to regulatory approval? Not anymore. The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) has given Australia’s newest airline Bonza the go-ahead to fly.

Subject to regulatory approval? Not anymore. The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) has given Australia’s newest airline Bonza the go-ahead to fly.

With its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) confirmed, the airline can finalise preparations to go on sale for its first flights out of its home base the Sunshine Coast Airport.

“This is an historic moment for Australian aviation as we get ready to launch the first high capacity airline in more than 15 years, and the country’s only independent low-cost carrier,” Bonza CEO Tim Jordan said.

“The excitement for what we are about to deliver is palpable and the timing couldn’t be better. Demand for domestic travel is high and Aussies deserve for travel to be a basic right for many, not a luxury for the few.

“This has never been truer with today’s cost of living challenges. With the approval from CASA, 2023 is set to be the year of seeing more of your own backyard for less.”

Going where few carriers have gone before

Bonza says it will “gradually” roll-out a network of 17 destinations and 27 routes, “93% of which are not currently served by any other airline and 96% of which currently have no low-cost carrier”.

As the airline prepares to go on sale via the Fly Bonza app and registered local travel agents, Jordan thanked its “team of legends who have worked very hard to achieve today’s milestone working alongside CASA who do incredibly important work regulating Australian aviation”.

“Now, our focus turns to connecting communities and we hope to see many Aussies onboard soon,” said Jordan.

A digital support centre will be available for customers with queries.

“The wait is nearly over so get your thumbs at the ready, pack your budgies and get ready for an adventure with [aircraft] Shazza, Bazza or Sheila!” the low-cost carrier said on Facebook. “It’s going to be Bonza!”

Bonza initially said it would hit the skies in 2022, but after approval was delayed, its launch was postponed until this year.

Travel advisors will be the only non-direct means of booking with Bonza.
