KARRYON recently travelled to Fiji and stayed at the alluring Westin Denarau where the facilities sparkle and the surroundings instantly ground you.
Flying into Nadi, it’s a short 25-minute transfer from the airport to the foyer at The Westin Denarau Island Resort & Spa Fiji.
Checking In & Beyond
As the transfer vehicle stops in front of the property, the porter opens your door with a smile and “BULA Welcome Home Sir”. What a greeting and yes, I do feel like I’m home.
My luggage is set aside while I’m escorted to the check-in counter and asked to choose between a glass of champagne and a local Fiji beer.
I wanted both, so I did.
The room wasn’t quite ready yet for me yet (it was only 1.00pm), so I decided to get a bite to eat – the BBQ dish being served near the pool. It was delicious and went down well with some gin.
Helpful Hint: Make sure your swimmers are easily accessbile from your luggage so you have no excuse than to just jump into the alluring swimming pool.
Room Type & Toiletries
‘Spacious’ was the first thing that came to mind upon entering the ground floor room with views of the ocean. I immediately opened the sliding doors to find an outdoor table and chair to sit back, relax and take in the sights along with a live game of volley ball played by hotel guests.
The room comes with two queen size beds, big TV, bar fridge and plenty of toiletries. There is also a desk to plug in the laptop for those that may need to work and plenty of room to hang up your clothes.
There is something special about the beds at The Westin. Some might say the crisp white douvet is what makes it but personally, I think it’s the pillows and the heavenly mattress. I had the best sleep and was snug as a bug. I did turn the aircon to 24 degrees which made the room just that temperature so you can keep that cotton ball feeling douvet over you.
Food & Beverage
You are really spoiled for choice here at The Westin with 14 dining venues plus you can arrange for a private dining experience ON THE BEACH. My favourite was the Kitchen Grill which is open 11am-10pm and dinner is on from 6.00pm. The location is really what makes this place the venue of choice. Beachfront all the way with a steak and fries with a side of salad chased with Fiji Gold. Nice.
Other choices range from the Ocean Terrace which is the breakfast place, Zing is for dinner only and offers the spicey side of Fiji and Asian dishes.
CocoPalms is popular and only opened on Wednesdays and Saturdays so make sure you make a booking.
The Westin Bakery is on-site and serves wraps, pastries and coffee all day.
There really is so much to do at the resort and who knew they had this lap pool and “Heavenly Spa” available for guests. I know they have “SPA” in the name but seriously this place whisks you away from reality. Hopefully next time I can just stay in the Spa rooms.
Overall, the kindness shown by all staff on-site was highly noted. They really do go over and above to help you make the experience at the property one to remember.
6 swimming pools
