Port of Los Angeles powers up West Coast cruising

Big things are on the horizon at the Port of Los Angeles – and it’s all about giving travel advisors more to sell. Plans are underway for a brand-new Outer Harbor Cruise Terminal and a major transformation of the existing World Cruise Centre.

The updates are designed to meet surging cruise demand and welcome the next generation of mega-ships with momentum from cruise lines expanding their offerings, including five new US West Coast itineraries from Virgin Voyages.

With the first phase launching in 2030, this four-year redevelopment will significantly boost capacity and elevate the guest experience, making LA the premier cruise gateway for Aussie travellers embarking on West Coast cruises.

Now open within The Grand LA, DATALAND is a new, year-round cultural experience that blends immersive art, technology and storytelling within Downtown LA’s Frank Gehry-designed cultural corridor. It features five multi-sensory galleries that showcase machine-made environments of visual data and AI-led creativity.

Built around ethical AI and responsible data practices, the highly anticipated museum explores the intersection of human imagination and machine creativity through evolving installations for a one-of-a-kind visitor experience.

Hilton Los Angeles Airport completes $71M room reno

Less than 2.3km from LAX and moments from LA attractions, such as SoFi Stadium, Intuit Dome, The Kia Forum and beach city neighbourhoods, Hilton Los Angeles Airport has undergone a USD$50 million (around AUD$71 million) transformation. The 1,234-key hotel will wow clients with new guestrooms inspired by minimalist, mid-century design, neutral palettes, luxe textures and sleek modern furnishings.

Former two-double-bed rooms now have two queen beds with premium mattresses, plus stylish bathrooms, mini-fridges, in-room tech and enhanced ADA accessibility. The hotel also offers 5,110sqm of versatile meeting space and a variety of dining options.

This redesign arrives as Los Angeles gears up for a global sporting and entertainment event calendar, making the Hilton LAX the ultimate hub for international travellers seeking a seamless stay in the heart of the action.

Cool-as: The Ice Cream Museum is back in LA

The viral Museum of Ice Cream (MOIC) immersive experience makes a permanent return to Los Angeles with a massive flagship location slated to debut in late 2026 in LA’s West Adams neighbourhood, primed for the sweetest picture-perfect selfies and photo opps.

The new experiential Museum of Ice Cream will include 15 interactive installations, including a 30m-long double-helix slide that extends past the building’s three-storey height, a Santa Monica Pier-themed carnival experience, a tiki bar and the world’s largest sprinkle pool. 

Now flying Melbourne to LA and beyond with Delta

Delta Air Lines launched its nonstop Melbourne–Los Angeles service in December 2025, making Melbourne its third Australian gateway alongside Sydney and Brisbane, and expanding its South Pacific network to four cities, including Auckland.

The year-round service currently operates three times weekly, increasing to five times weekly from 27 October 2026, and daily during the peak summer period from 22 December 2026.
