Known for its idyllic location among the famous Great Barrier Reef – Hamilton Island is a dreamy destination that you can make your reality.
Whether you’re ready to sit back with a book and relax or fuel your adrenaline junkie nature – prepare to indulge in the island hostess with the mostess.
Want to make sure you’re prepped for your island getaway? Here are 8 experiences that will make sure you get the most out of your Hamilton Island escape.
1. Join Ariel on an underwater OR on the water adventure
One of the main beaches on Hamilton Island, beautiful Catseye Beach is a perfect spot for relaxing, swimming, and enjoying a whole range of fun watersports. If you’re lucky enough, grab a snorkel and take a friend turtle watching – they’re shy but you should catch one or two if you’re patient! If that’s not your style, take up stand up paddle boarding or windsurfing – why not?
2. Live your Fast & Furious dream around the island
Maybe we should say ‘slow & relaxed’ dream because the preferred mode of transport on the island is golf buggys! Vin Diesel, eat your heart out! If you’ve ever wanted the luxury of driving a golf cart (without playing Golf) – Hamilton Island has you covered. Even better, if you book through Sunlover Holidays– you get free 24-hour golf buggy hire!
3. Feed the Culinary Chef in you
If you’re a fan of the traditional fish’n’chips then head on over to Popeyes’ and grab a fish wrap, followed by a short walk to a beautiful picnic spot. For those of you keeping the kids in tow, we highly recommend Coca Chu, where kids eat free with paying adults (the cocktails are good too!). And lastly, Gordon Ramsay would smile walking into Bommie, the award-winning waterfront restaurant – we highly recommend booking in advance!
4. Sleep the day away in all different styles of Accomm’
This is our favourite part of Hamilton Island, they can cater for every style of traveler. Travelling with family? Get a self-contained apartment or stay at the Reef View Hotel! Wanting that Honeymoon luxury? Check out The Beach Club Hotel for adults only space. Looking for something low-cost but has all the amentities? Try Palm Bungalows – super convenient and cost effective! Find your perfect accommodation here
5. Play ball with Golfing greats
Okay, the jury is out on whether the pro-golfers will be there but the Hamilton Island Golf Club is one of the most well-known 18-hole courses around Australia. The views are simply incredible but it will be the difficulty of the course that will take your breath away with British Open winners claiming it’s one of the most challenging courses around! Maybe opt for putt putt instead?
6. Fly high in the sky for a view to die for
If you get to experience Hamilton Island on the ground, then you have to experience it from the air. Take a scenic helicopter flight over the beautiful beaches & island for a once in a lifetime experience. #hamiltonMYland
7.Picnic at One Tree Hill (Chad Michael Murray not included)
We mentioned Popeye’s fish’n’chips – well, the spot you’re going to want to get to (ideally) is One Tree Hill. It’s well known among guests as the best place to catch the sunset but take a picnic one or two nights and soak up the atmosphere – it’s picturesque!
8. Sail around the Island or simply Spectate
There isn’t a more perfect destination in the world to set sail and relax than the Whitsundays. Mix the beautiful location with the orange and yellow hues from the sun setting in the distance and you have yourself an unforgettable experience. With Sunset Sail Whitsundays offering complimentary drinks and nibbles, this is guaranteed to be an evening that will make you want to live the island life forever.
Alternatively, enjoy some of the stunning, calm waters around Hamilton Island by cruising in your own catamaran. Lastly, sit on the beach at sunset with a cocktail and watch from the shores.
