UK's first rollercoaster restaurant opens at Alton Towers

We've all heard of a sushi train, perhaps even a restaurant where your food is served out of toilet bowl, but we bet you've never had your food served to you quite like this!

We’ve all heard of a sushi train, perhaps even a restaurant where your food is served out of toilet bowl, but we bet you’ve never had your food served to you quite like this!

Alton Towers, a theme park in Staffordshire, England, is set to open the UK’s first rollercoaster restaurant today, and boy are we excited!

But what the HELL is a rollercoaster restaurant you ask?

Well, instead of your food being served to you by a plate juggling waiter, your food will travel around a 400-metre steel track that includes two gravity defying loop-the-loops before dropping nearly 8-metres down a tornado spiral onto your table!

Pretty weird, ahem, cool restaurant concept, don’t you think?

Check it out!

Just to put this in perspective guys: 400-metres is equivalent to a full size athletics track, and 8-metres is about the height of a double decker bus.

Oh, and just in case you’re wondering, each plate will travel an average of 278-kilometres each week, which is about the same distance between Sydney and Canberra!

Boy, those plates will get around…

Set in the heart of the park – just a short walk from the resort’s Enchanted Village – the restaurant consists of 13 tables all set below a vast rollercoaster track.

The restaurant – which should definitely be added to this list of “unique” dining experiences around the world – will give guests an entertaining meal experience while they’re taking a break from the actual rollercoasters and other thrill rides that exist throughout Alton Towers.

According to an Alton Towers spokeswoman, the rollercoaster restaurant adds an exciting element to the theme park:

‘The intricate network of loops and spiralling tracks is an incredible spectacle and we feel that the new restaurant is an attraction in itself.”

“We’ve worked hard to ensure the excitement found at the restaurant is a close match to many of its neighbouring attractions – and we can’t wait to see the reaction from visitors when they experience it for the first time.”

Oh, and to alleviate any concerns you may over spillage, each dish on the menu (which includes an appropriately named Rollercoaster Burger and the Ultimate Rollercoaster Ice Cream Bowl, amongst other favourites) was put through its paces at the resort’s test centre to guarantee there are more thrills than spills when a meal is served.

All aboard!
