Why High Tea Tastes Better With Gin

Sydney isn't short of cafes and artisan coffee shops, however there's something to be said about enjoying a classic Sunday Afternoon Tea from a comfortable chair in a tranquil hotel bar, and if it involves a tipple of gin, even better.

Sydney isn’t short of cafes and artisan coffee shops, however there’s something to be said about enjoying a classic Sunday Afternoon Tea from a comfortable chair in a tranquil hotel bar, and if it involves a tipple of gin, even better.

Catching up with a friend on a Sunday but struggling to decide whether to have lunch, coffee or a cocktail? Why not put the espresso beans to the side for a day in favour of a well brewed pot of gin infused tea and enjoy it with a selection of savoury and sweet treats.

Sounds too good to be true?

Taking the traditional Afternoon Tea and Champagne to the next level,  Radisson Blu Plaza Sydney together with Archie Rose Distilling Co. are offering a new innovative Distiller’s High Tea, in the hotel’s Fax Bar, including both gin, vodka and rye.

The savoury treats included salmon sandwiches and crisp spring rolls.

The clever menu allows you to enjoy the Distiller’s High Tea three ways by either selecting a shot of each spirit or by picking your favourite cocktail made of the spirits (Gin Green Tea Martini, Vodka Lychee Cocktail, White Rye Passionfruit squeeze) or having the spirits mixed in the tea pot with gin being mixed with Earl Grey, vodka mixed with camomile and White Rye paired with Irish Breakfast.

Being an avid gin enthusiast I had the Gin Green Tea Martini which had a strong nice tea flavour with a sweet taste.

Carrot cake and mimosa

From the sweet treats the stand outs were the carrot cake and the lemon cake, which were best enjoyed together with a cup of English Breakfast Tea.

For anyone feeling experimental there are another fifteen tea blends on the menu including Oolong Tea with Ginseng, Lychee Tea and Darjeeling to name a few.
