St Patrick’s Day is a celebration of Ireland’s patron saint and means a bank holiday and a day off in the country, as well as celebrated around the world.

Sadly, this year, the pandemic has meant pubs and restaurants in Ireland and the UK are closed, and people cannot gather to celebrate as per usual.

But rest assured, the festivities will continue, albeit a tad differently for 2021. Countries from all over the world are going green again as part of Tourism Ireland’s Global Greening initiative for St Patrick’s Day 2021.

From its humble beginning back in 2010, when just our very own Sydney Opera House and the Sky Tower in Auckland went green, the annual event has since grown into a green-hued extravaganza.

This year will be the biggest ever Global Greening event with around 670 sites in 66 different countries taking part.

From Rome to Rio and from London to Las Vegas, a host of famous buildings and sites around the world will be turning a shade of green over the coming days. You can check out the full list here.

And luckily for us here in Australia, there’ll be a range of events and happenings on offer across all of our cities on March 17, 2021.

Meanwhile, in Sydney, the St Patrick’s Day Festival is returning to The Rocks for a family-friendly, free event on Sunday, March 21st 2021.

Kicking off at 11 am with a traditional smoking ceremony, festival-goers can enjoy some toe-tapping live music from some of Sydney’s best-known Irish acts, world-class Irish dance performances, taste some of the best Irish food Sydney has to offer and feel a little closer to home on our National Day all while overlooking the iconic Sydney Opera House.

However you decide to celebrate St Patrick’s Day this year, it’s a big cheers from us here at Karryon!
