HOTEL REVIEW: The Saujana Hotel, Kuala Lumpur

A mere thirty minutes from bustling downtown Kuala Lumpur, The Saujana Hotel feels like it’s a universe away.

A mere thirty minutes from bustling downtown Kuala Lumpur, The Saujana Hotel feels like it’s a universe away.

Set amidst 160-hectares of lush landscaped gardens, The Saujana Hotel is built in a resort-style on an old oil, palm and rubber estate.

There is a tropical, yet almost luxurious colonial feel to the property that evokes a feeling of tranquillity from the moment you step foot on the grounds.

CHECK-IN

There are two check-in options available for guests staying at The Saujana Hotel. For The Club guests, separate access is granted to The Lounge, an elegant space where you are welcomed with a cool face towel and chilled drink while your details are processed.

There are no lines in sight…talk about spoiling me for every future hotel check-in I experience! Your luggage is whisked away as you sink into the comfortable lounges overlooking the gardens until your room is ready or you have finished exploring the extensive grounds.

Those not staying in The Club will be checked in at the impressive main lobby with its soaring thatched roof and dark wood accents.

ROOM TYPE & AMENITIES

The Lounge offers direct elevator access to The Club rooms via open-air corridors and, as you step into the lobby of your Executive Suite to glance down the expansive corridor lined with almost life-size backlit vases, you’ll know this is no ordinary hotel room.

Calming music plays almost as if it is the soundtrack to your tour further invoking a serenity that is only broken when trying to find the switch to turn it off. Tip: the switch is in the bathroom!

Burmese teak wood lines the floors and pepper the suite that features a lounge room complete with day bed overlooking the gardens, wooden venetians for privacy, a small dining table and flat screen TV offering 24-channels.

Whilst the hotel itself may seem like a world away, the modern amenities and connectivity throughout the property ensures you can easily keep your finger on the pulse.

In a somewhat open-plan design, the corridor leads to a spacious bathroom complete with sunken tub, a separate toilet and a separate rain shower room lined with slate that is guaranteed to transport you to your own private waterfall.

The ideal solution for couples who want their own space, the bathroom also features twin sinks on opposite sides of the room with ample shelving for toiletries and a hairdryer like any you’d find at a salon.

A little further down the corridor lies the bedroom, featuring a king-size bed, desk overlooking the gardens, another flat screen LCD TV and walk-in-robe complete with safe.

A power hub is within easy access on the desk to charge your electricals, a blackout blind is available for those wanting complete darkness and the mattress and pillows are the stuff that dreams are made of…literally.

Another benefit of staying in this exquisite room is access to the The Lounge where you can enjoy breakfast and complimentary early-evening gourmet canapés and cocktails overlooking the gardens and water features. You can also access Senja, the all-new open-kitchen Italian restaurant that is located within The Lounge.

FOOD & BEVERAGE

Eight dining and bar venues are positioned within The Saujana Hotel offering myriad cuisines suitable for the most discerning epicurean. You are completely spoilt for choice!

An extensive buffet breakfast is on offer at Charcoal that also serves (as the name suggests) an array of prime cuts of grilled meat and fresh seafood, along with Malaysian favourites and Chinese fusion.

Kogetsu sits on stilts in traditional Japanese “ryokan” fashion offering fresh, traditional Japanese fare and Teppanyaki, while Ti Chen is positioned by the lake and serves up dim sum and Cantonese cuisine.

For those after a classy tipple, the Bayu Lounge has a menu of cocktails, snacks and live jazz and, for those after a quick snack, Cook’s Deli offers a range of sandwiches, pastries, cakes and beverages.

The most character-filled venue has to be RP and Whisky Bar however. Positioned in a colonial-style bungalow, it is almost the perfect blend of southern American styling and “ye olde” English pub.  The island bar is perfect for watching the bartenders mix their signature cocktails as the live band or DJ keep the tunes pumping into the night and an array of tapas and woodfired pizzas ensure guests don’t go hungry.

Working closely with renowned whisky brands including Nant, Chivas and Glenfiddich, whisky classes are also on offer every month.

Facilities

Whilst I may not have had enough time to personally experience the facilities at The Saujana Hotel, the offering is varied for those either after some down time or with a desire to keep active.

As part of the greater Saujana Golf & Country Club, guests have access to two 18-hole golf courses designed by Ronald Fream along with an Olympic-size swimming pool and, on The Saujana Hotel property itself, there is a 36-metre pool, lagoon pool, tennis courts and a fitness centre.

The Spa offers a wide range of therapies from all different modalities including the opportunity for in-room treatments for those who really want to relish their stunning accommodation.
