Trenitalia and the Italian National Tourist Board (ENIT) have added 75 stops and new initiatives to enhance the intercity rail network and promote top destinations, including family-friendly carriages, extra charging ports and more accommodation for bicycles.

ENIT is keen to promote the popular and sustainable mode of transport as a way to discover Italy, adding 75 new stops to cater for more than five million people travelling for the 2022 summer season.

Intercity trains will now contain a dedicated 24-seat carriage for families with a stroller area, a spacious bathroom with a nursery section, themed tables with games for toddlers, a vending machine and a stand-up area. Kids under 15 years can also travel free with a paying adult.

Intercity trains will also offer extra charging ports and more than 600 bicycle spaces per day to meet growing demand from locals and tourists who want to roam the Italian countryside on two wheels.

The Ligurian Riviera, including the Cinque Terre, Versilia, Sicily and the Adriatic Coast are among the most sought-after destinations across the train network, said ENIT Manager for Australia and New Zealand Emanuele Attanasio.
