I bet you’re wishing you could take the Midnight Train going anywhere right now? Well, Midnight Trains, a french start-up, has announced a plan of overnight services from Paris, which look pretty luxurious.

Good things come to those who wait, and although you will have to wait until 2024 for these Midnight Trains, it looks like they’ll be well worth holding out for.

If you’ve ever had the pleasure of travelling on an overnight train in Europe, you’ll be wise to the fact they’re not usually very luxurious.

But it looks like Midnight Trains will be breaking the mould with its smooth and sophisticated experience aboard these ‘rolling boutique hotels’.

The brains behind the brand are Adrien Aumont and Romain Payet, the team that founded French crowdfunding website KissKissBankBank and their goal is to make the sleeper train cool again.

“I got the idea during a dinner in Athens and immediately fell in love with Midnight Trains,” Adrien Aumont says.

“Midnight is a train, a hotel, a restaurant and an app that connects Europe, and allows us to travel at will. I hope many of you will be dreaming aboard Midnight.”

Another big factor for Midnight Trains is eco-responsibility. The site reads ‘the experience sold by commercial aviation no longer fits out time,’ with an experience marked by ‘stress and discomfort’.

Midnight Trains says it believes the journey matters as much as the destination, and by embracing overnight rail, you’ll be reducing your carbon footprint significantly.

Centred around Paris’s Gare du Nord train station, the network will stretch 800km across Europe, embracing the magic of slow travel and taking guests to Madrid, Lisbon, Porto, Milan, Venice, Florence, Rome, Vienna, Prague, Budapest, Berlin, Hamburg, Copenhagen and Edinburgh.

Onboard, travellers will get their own hotel-like private room with ensuite, soft bedding and movies on demand.

The ‘dining cart’ conjures up images of the roaring 20s with an art-deco style bar, serving seasonal produce, house cocktails, live wines and craft beer. Choose to dine in the carriage or in your room. BYO flapper dress!

If you ask me, the Midnight Trains is a 100% yes. It saves around 20x less greenhouse house gas per passenger per km travelled on a flight, you get a decent meal, a good night sleep and your experience begins as soon as you step aboard.

This is the new age of travel; charming, sophisticated, respectful and responsible.
