Avalon Waterways is adding Portugal to its portfolio of Europe cruising destinations alongside the launch of Suite Ship Avalon Alegria in 2024 with a new Douro River itinerary set to highlight the region’s vineyards, villages, food and history.

The new Avalon Alegria, built exclusively for the Douro, joins the 15-strong fleet of Suite Ships and along with signature inclusions, will feature a pool on the Sky Deck for guests to enjoy Portugal from a new, poolside point-of-view.

The brand-new, eight-day Vida Portugal: Vineyards & Villages Along the Douro itinerary begins and ends in Porto, setting sail from 3 April 2024 with plenty of options for sightseeing and activities.

Featuring everything from ancient Amarante in the picturesque Minho region to the sandstone architecture in Salamanca, Spain, rock art to riding bikes, this new cruise promises countless ways to soak up the splendour and all the vinho, baked bread, olives and cheese any traveller could want.
