Road Trip: Island Discovery Series
Fast facts
- Starts: O’ahu, Hawai’i
- Ends: Moloka’i, Hawai’i
- How long: Allow 18 days
Our journey kicks off in Honolulu on O’ahu, where big city vibes meet tropical paradise. Our first stop is the Diamond Head State Monument. This 300,000-year-old volcanic crater flaunts a short hike that rewards you with jaw-dropping views of the Pacific Ocean and the city below. Trust me, the sweat is worth it…

Next, dive into history at the USS Arizona Memorial, a poignant reminder of the past. Feeling adventurous? Snorkel at Hanauma Bay, where it’s like swimming in an aquarium with colourful fish and coral reefs – magical!
Now, let’s hit O’ahu’s North Shore, the “surfing capital of the world.” Whether you’re catching waves or just watching the pros, it’s an experience you can’t miss. If you’re more of a beach bum, Waikiki Beach has gentle waves perfect for beginners. And don’t forget, O’ahu boasts over 160km of coastline, so there’s a beach for everyone! Make sure to visit the regal ‘Iolani Palace and the Polynesian Cultural Center to soak up the island’s rich history and culture.
Next up, we’re hopping on a short flight to Kaua’i, the “Garden Island.” This lush paradise is straight out of a postcard! Explore Waimea Canyon State Park and Koke’e State Park for hikes with epic views of Waipo’o Falls and the Kalalau Valley. Up for a thrill? Kayak along the Nāpali Coast and soak in the dramatic cliffs. For the ultimate hike, tackle the 17km Kalalau Trail, or just chill at Po’ipu Beach, a top spot for surfers, swimmers, and snorkellers – we won’t judge you…

Next, we’re heading to Hawai’i (The Big Island), where the adventures keep getting better! Dive into Kailua-Kona’s turquoise waters and snorkel with sea turtles, or feel like a cowboy by heading to Waimea and exploring the lush landscapes on horseback or ATV. You can also hike through the mystical Waipi’o Valley, where black sand beaches, waterfalls, and steaming craters create a magical setting. For the ultimate volcanic experience, visit Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park to witness the awe-inspiring Maunaloa, the world’s largest volcano. Drive along Chain of Craters Road and explore the Jaggar Museum and Volcano Art Center.

Sadly, it’s time to leave the Big Island. But don’t worry, the adventure continues as we fly to Maui, the second-largest island and famous for whale-watching and pristine beaches. You can easily get your adrenaline fix with snorkelling, diving, surfing, and paddleboarding here. During winter, keep an eye out for humpback whales and their calves. Drive the scenic Road to Hāna, stopping at secluded waterfalls like Twin Falls, the black sand beach at Wai’anapanapa State Park, and ocean caves. Don’t miss the sunrise at Haleakalā National Park – it’s an early start, but the sight of the sun rising above the clouds is unforgettable…
From Maui, we’re taking a quick trip to Lāna’i, the smallest inhabited island in Hawai’i. This island offers luxury accommodations, world-class golf, horseback riding, off-road adventures, stunning beaches, lush rainforests, and nature preserves. Despite its size, Lāna’i is packed with diverse experiences and unparalleled natural beauty. You’ll probably want to stick around longer than you’d originally planned here…
Finally, it’s time to pull the curtain on this Hawaiian holiday, but not before experiencing Hawai’i in its most untouched form on the island of Moloka’i. From the towering 2,000-foot cliffs to pristine white-sand beaches, Moloka’i stays true to its Hawaiian roots. This island is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts looking for a serene escape into nature’s pure beauty.
