Buckle up, movie enthusiasts for this cinematic joyride through the enchanting landscapes of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida! From iconic streets to historic plantations, follow the reel – and hold onto the steering wheel – as we delve into the Southern charm that has graced the silver screen.
Our movie adventure begins in the lively streets of New Orleans, where the French Quarter’s vibrant energy sets the stage for movie magic. Wander around this historic neighbourhood and be charmed by its intoxicating blend of sound, sights and smells! Strolling through Bourbon Street, reminiscent of “Live and Let Die,” we encounter party revellers adorned in bright beads and feathered masks, breathing life into scenes from “Pelican Brief” and “Tightrope.”
Venturing from New Orleans, we follow the mighty Mississippi River to Oak Alley Plantation, where the grand mansion served as a haunting backdrop in “Interview with the Vampire.” Beyoncé’s “Déjà Vu” music video also found its rhythm amid the stately oaks and historic grounds.
Our road then winds northwest through the vast Atchafalaya Basin, the setting for an early silent version of “Tarzan of the Apes.” A detour in Morgan City reveals the lush swamp’s secrets on an airboat tour, echoing the silent film’s wild allure.
Departing Natchitoches, we head to Greenwood, Mississippi, the picturesque backdrop for “The Help.” Walking through its streets is like stepping into the shoes of Minny, Celia, Hilly, and Skeeter. It’s pretty amazing!
A new day dawns as we explore Opelika, the setting for “Norma Rae,” and LaFayette, transformed for “Mississippi Burning.” Atlanta beckons with its own cinematic tales, from the Marriott Marquis’ opulent atrium in “The Hunger Games” to the picturesque Agnes Scott College, a backdrop for “Scream 2” and “The Blind Side.”
Optional Extension: Atlanta, Georgia – Orlando, Florida:
For those yearning for an extra dose of cinematic magic, a quick flight to Orlando opens up the next chapter of this silver-screen adventure. Explore the Kennedy Space Center, a cinematic haven where intergalactic blockbusters like “Apollo 13,” “Armageddon,” and “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” left their mark.
And, not to be overlooked, immerse yourself in the enchanting realms of Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Universal Orlando Resort. Movie enthusiasts devoted to Star Wars and Harry Potter are in for a treat here, ensuring our journey concludes on a truly magical note.
