What are you loving about Australia?

I’ve been here for three months and I’ve really been enjoying it. The people are friendly and everyone is so helpful. I really like the easygoing lifestyle and mentality, it’s very different. The people you surround yourself with always makes a difference. The best thing is being able to go to the beach every weekend. Coming from Germany, going to the beach is something very special for me and I love doing it. It’s sad that after a few months here I start taking the ability to visit the beach for granted.

Tell us about your upcoming tavels plan.

I’m excited to go to Melbourne and do the Great Ocean Road over Christmas with some friends that I made during my stay in Sydney. I’m also planning to go to Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef with my girlfriend when she comes to visit me; we also want to go to explore the entire length of New Zealand.

Most surprising thing about Australia?

Nothing prepared me for the heat here! I also didn’t expect it to be so clean. There are so many great places to hang out with your mates. Last week I was at Shelly Beach (Manly) at a public barbeque area, it was one of the most relaxing weekends I’ve had since I’ve been here.

Tell us your future travel plans.

I’d love to go to North America. I’ve never been there before and a couple of friends are currently living there, one in Vancouver and the other in Alabama. I’m hoping to visit them but at the moment it’s not in my budget.

What’s your funniest travel experience so far?

I got caught breaking into a swimming pool of a foreign resort at night in Ko Thao, Thailand. Perhaps it was more awkward than funny but I guess it makes for a funny story.

Michael recommends:

  • I like this beach towel because one thing about going to the beach everyone gets annoyed about is the sand. You and everything you brought gets pretty sandy and this towel helps you avoid that, it’s sand repellent, it also dries much faster than a usual beach towel – so definitely worth the price. http://www.lagu.com.au RRP $50

  • The perfect bag to keep your food and beer cool whilst on the beach, it’s definitely a must have. I’d recommend it especially because it’s a small convenient size, but you can still fit in everything you need to bring with you. https://store.envirotrend.com.au/stripes-envirochill-mini-ws-2 RRP $12.99

  • The sun can be really aggressive, specially here in Australia. But once I put sunscreen on, I normally forget it for the rest of the day which often results in me getting burnt to a crisp. This sunscreen lasts long enough for me to just put it on once, hopefully I don’t need to worry about getting sunburnt. It’s also pretty affordable for a sunscreen. https://www.beyondcoastal.com/category/natural-formulas/product/natural-sunscreen-spf-30 RRP FROM $6.99
