With almost 30 years’ experience, Brisbane-based Albatross Tours offers a range of escorted holidays to Europe.

Albatross Tours recently appointed new MD Shelley Poten to lead its specialist team so it’s fair to say they have the insights on planning the perfect trip.

When to go

Firstly, consider when you want to go. Travelling to Europe in May, early June, August and September offers a great balance of agreeable summer temps and manageable crowds.

Or if a white Christmas or the Northern Lights are on your wish list, visit Europe in December or January.

For the best airfare deals, book flights at least four to five months in advance and use a travel agent to compare airline prices and offers and obtain travel insurance for your trip.

Once you have the dates and airfares booked, planning your Europe itinerary is both the hard and fun part, according to Albatross Tours, with so many destinations to choose from.

Small-group touring allows more time in a destination for sightseeing at your own pace and authentic exploration with a like-minded group.

To help narrow down your options, the Europe experts advise thinking about your interests (food, languages, shopping), wish-list destinations and any practical considerations such as transport.

What to pack

When packing, don’t forget to include the right power adapters (two round prongs for most of Europe and three rectangular prongs for the UK and Ireland) and pack comfy shoes for sightseeing.

For the long-haul flight, it’s also a good idea to bring your noise-reduction headphones and an amenity pack of toiletry essentials on board.

And then finally, enjoy your Europe trip!
