In a continuation of the new ‘Find Yourself in Singapore’ campaign that targeted first-time Aussie travellers such as Jimmy Rees along with repeat visitors, the comedian and ambassador for the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) Oceania campaign has shared his top tips and first impressions of the Lion City.

Some of his January 2024 trip highlights included iconic and Insta-worthy attractions, such as the Merlion statue, alongside traditional sites such as the Lau Pa Sat hawker centre and the adjoining ‘Satay Street’ aka Boon Tat Street.

“Enjoying the amazing culinary delights is also a great way to immerse yourself in local culture, especially when so much of the country’s history is wrapped up in its favourite dishes,” Rees said.

He also commented on the ease of getting to and around the compact city-state (just seven hours from the east coast and five hours’ flight from Perth) and its family-friendly options such as Universal Studios Singapore and Sentosa Island.

“My top tip to Aussie travellers is to leave Changi Airport! Singapore is a destination with something for everyone. It’s a playground of unexpected and surprising adventures and I can’t wait to come back here with my family,” Rees said.

“The ease of travel and variety of things on offer means my wife and I can let the kids go wild but we won’t be bored either.”

Rees’ inaugural trip was part of STB Oceania’s ‘Find Yourself in Singapore’ campaign, which invited Aussies to guess the locations of six hidden 3D-printed miniature figurines to win one of six $500 travel vouchers to the city-state.

Australia is a key market for the country, recovering 95 per cent of 2019’s visitor arrivals from January to August 2023.
