Accor cements its commitment in Japan with 22 new hotel openings, representing an additional 6,000 rooms in the region and bringing the hospitality group’s local property portfolio total to 46 with two more in the pipeline.
The new Accor openings come as Japan remains in high demand for Australians and taps into travellers’ desire for comfort and local culture amid nature.
The 22 Grand Mercure and Mercure hotels join 24 existing Accor properties operating in Japan across eight brands, which include Pullman, MGallery, Swissôtel, Novotel, ibis, ibis Styles and ibis budget.
Accor’s premium brand Grand Mercure debuts in Japan offering ‘Proudly Local’ hotels with experiences crafted by local hosts, while midscale Mercure also focuses on the local neighbourhood.
The 12 Grand Mercure and 10 Mercure properties are located from the northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido to the southernmost prefecture of Okinawa.
Some are close to local hidden gems such as Cape Zanpa in Okinawa, Asuka village in Nara, Shiroi Koibito Park in Hokkaido and Senri Beach in Wakayama.
Each hotel offers a range of guestrooms, restaurants and wellness facilities, such as onsen (hot springs), saunas and swimming pools.
Notable new properties include Grand Mercure Okinawa Cape Zanpa Resort and Grand Mercure Wakayama Minabe Resort & Spa.
The 465-room Grand Mercure Okinawa Cape Zanpa Resort combines modern amenities with traditional Okinawan hospitality and one of the largest pool areas on the island.
On the coastline in the southern Wakayama Prefecture, the 323-room Grand Mercure Wakayama Minabe Resort & Spa is another sophisticated getaway amid natural beauty.
Accor Asia COO Premium, Midscale & Economy Division Garth Simmons said: “As the desire to connect with local culture and nature is increasingly in demand, we offer our loyal guests just that; a range of local experiences offered in charming coastal towns and among nature.”
“Popular destinations such as Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto will always remain in high demand, however, to truly immerse yourself in the authentic culture of a country, sometimes you need to escape the big cities and head off the beaten path.”
