Anantara Palais Hansen Vienna has made its debut in Austria, boasting Vienna's largest Penthouse Suite and Michelin-starred dining.

Anantara Palais Hansen Vienna has made its debut in Austria, boasting Vienna’s largest Penthouse Suite and Michelin-starred dining.

Originally designed by Baron Theophil Edvard von Hansen in 1873 as a hotel, the renovated palace is now the city’s first urban luxury resort.

The reimaginging of the heritage property includes original marble floors, stucco ceilings and heritage-listed staircases.

Each of the 152 guest rooms and suites was renovated and has marble bathrooms with Acqua di Parma amenities, soaring 3.5-metre ceilings and oversized windows.

The Presidential Suite, Vienna’s largest at 270 square metres, has seven French balconies, a lounge with a grand piano, dining area and a wellness space.

There are three eateries. At Michelin-starred Edvard, head chef Paul Gamauf’s avant-garde cuisine is centred around sustainable and low-waste dishes and beverages.

At Theo’s Lounge & Bar, indulge in homemade cakes and pastries such as the iconic apple strudel by day, and at night sip cocktails made with local brandies, seasonal ingredients and repurposed produce, while at newly launched Brasserie Sophie, named after Hansen’s wife, savour a ‘reimagination’ of Austrian cuisine.

Anantara chefs also lead cooking classes as part of the Spice Spoons experience, focusing on such local classics as semolina dumpling soup and Kaiserschmarren pancakes.
