A bunch of travel media and industry influencers were recently wined and dined at an exclusive VIP pre-Mardi Gras event at the luxurious Pullman Sydney Hyde Park with uninterrupted views of the legendary parade.
Guests were joined by Australian politicians MP Tanya Plibersek and MP Bill Shorten who dropped by to lend their support to the LGBTG community in Australia.
The iconic Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is a celebration of equality and pride for the LGBTG community in Australia, and it’s definitely one of the major events in the Sydney festival calendar.
Treated to drinks, a delicious spread of food, and canapés, guests – including KarryOn – were lucky enough to witness the glitz and glamour of the 2016 Mardi Gras from one of the best vantage points of the parade circuit: right on College Street opposite Hyde Park.
As reported on Friday last week, the Pullman Sydney Hyde Park recently turned its “camp” dial up to eleven, replacing its Pullman branded flag with the symbol of gay and lesbian pride – the rainbow flag.
The hotel also redecorated its lobby with a geometric rainbow wall and its much-loved Drag Queen lobby display.
The Pullman’s redecorating echoes AccorHotels‘s commitment to supporting the passing of the Australian Marriage Equality Act.

During the parade, a number of iconic Australian travel companies also showed their support for the LGBTG community, including Qantas who proudly displayed its “Gay380” rainbow float.
Thank you to our stunning #Gay380 crew and @courtneyact for another spectacular #SydneyMardiGras! See you next year!https://t.co/k5ihFSSSnY

Qantas’ Chief Executive, Alan Joyce, just last week spoke out to encourage more LGBTG business leaders to be open and honest about their sexual orientation in order to encourage tolerance and diversity around world.
Across the other side of the world, over in Iceland, budget airline WOW Air recently lent its support for the LGBTG community by registering its latest aircraft as TF-GAY.
The registration of the new aircraft comes ahead of its first flights to San Francisco and Los Angeles later this summer.
