Baines’ Lodge in the Okavango Delta has reopened after an extensive, ground-up renovation with “cutting-edge sustainability and dramatic views”.

A&K’s Baines’ Lodge has six newly rebuilt suites raised on stilts above the floodplains at the edge of the Moremi Game Reserve in the heart of the UNESCO-listed Okavango Delta.

Communal areas – arranged around a dormant termite mound – include a Bush Boutique selling local arts and crafts and the Explorer’s Lounge, where you’ll find a microscope and interactive maps, while binoculars are provided at check-in so guests can view nature from their deck.

When you’re not spotting wildlife from your luxurious suite or cooling off in the swimming pool, there are twice-daily game drives with wildlife experts.

In the dry season, head out on foot, and in the wet season, explore the wetlands by motorised boat.

Outside, large ‘overhangs’ are constructed to be removed after 20 years, leaving no trace, and the entire property is solar-powered.

Meanwhile, sister property Gorilla Forest Lodge in Uganda reopened in late July after a complete refresh.

It is the only lodge inside the gates of Bwindi National Park where the largest remaining population of mountain gorillas live.

Gorilla Forest Lodge has 10 standalone villas set apart in the forest, each with a private deck to watch monkeys play in the trees.

Natural materials have been incorporated throughout, from the woven banana-leaf ceilings to chandeliers created by women from nearby communities using beads made from recycled paper.

Every stay funds A&K Philanthropy projects which support and conserve local communities, wildlife, and the Bwindi Forest.
