Luxury Lodges of Australia property, Bullo River Station will undergo an extensive redevelopment, with a focus on being energy-efficient.

The 161,874-hectare working cattle station in the East Kimberley Region, in the Northern Territory, will close in 2026 and reopen May 2027.

The 12-room property is home to around 2,000 brahman-cross cattle as well as wallabies, dingoes, wild buffalo, crocodiles and myriad of birdlife.

The redevelopment will see more generous guest rooms and the development of a new two-bedroom family suite.

The existing swimming pool, firepit and guest lounges will remain the focal points of outdoor relaxation, with new landscaping and guest spaces that require less cooling, whilst also increasing the property’s water capture and solar power generation abilities.

Bullo River Station Co-Owners, Alexandra and Julian Burt say, “Welcoming guests to our home in the outback has brought us immense joy since becoming the custodians of Bullo River Station in 2017”.

“The experience of being on this breathtaking property has resonated with people in ways we could never have imagined, and their wonder and support have encouraged us even more to shore up the future of this most remarkable Australian gem.”

“After several years of major investment in the pastoral infrastructure, and in the significant conservation work undertaken with our conservation partner, the Australian Wildlife Conservancy, we are now embarking on a redevelopment of the homestead and guest wing, the heart of the property.

“This is no small challenge, given the well-known history of these buildings and the memories that have been created in them over the decades.

“Our ambition is to honour that extraordinary legacy by re-creating the Bullo River homestead with all its most recognisable features, accompanied by new guest and team spaces, all designed to enhance the overall experience.”

The property recently joined the Luxury Lodges of Australia collection.

Luxury Lodges of Australia Executive Chair, Penny Rafferty says, “The Bullo experience is distinctively Australian: raw yet refined, vast yet intimate, understated yet luxurious by virtue of access to the land and the genuine hospitality of the hosts”.

“Bullo is the kind of uniquely Australian experience that aligns perfectly with the Luxury Lodges of Australia DNA.”

Bullo River Station will continue with its partnership work with the Australian Wildlife Conservancy during the renovation works.
