First look at Capella Singapore's newly refurbished three-bedroom 'manors'

Capella Singapore has reopened its three luxury manors to discerning guests after a major refurb of the sprawling properties on its property on Sentosa Island.

Capella Singapore has reopened its three luxury manors to discerning guests after a major refurb of the sprawling properties on its property on Sentosa Island.

‘Capella Manor’ was redesigned by Melbourne-based interior decorator, Simone Haag with Asian-inspired influence; while the two ‘Colonial Manors’ by Singapore-based Matthew Shang Design Office focus on honouring their storied historical origins.

Capella Singapore General Manager, Yngvar Stray, says, “This redesign showcases Capella’s commitment to creating spaces that not only celebrate our heritage but also provide a warm and welcoming environment where guests can seamlessly transition their lifestyle from home to the manors.

“We believe in offering shared experiences that inspire and create cherished memories that will last well beyond their stay with us. By incorporating personal touches and timeless furnishings, we invite guests to immerse themselves in a tranquil retreat that feels uniquely theirs.”

An Asian influence

Almost double the size of the average Australian home, the two-storey Capella Manor has 576 square metres of living space, three ensuite bedrooms, multiple living areas, and an outdoor terrace with private lap pool.

Designed to appear like a private guesthouse, the property is filled with storied vintage pieces such as a pair of 1930s Swedish monk chairs and woven Peanut chairs.

Haag says, “Over many years, we have established a growing network of artists, makers, antique specialists, vintage traders and designers that spans the globe. Drawing from this treasure trove, we can curate projects unlike anything seen before. Projects that are entirely contextual and highly considerate of the end users’ experience.

“At Capella Singapore, an evolving design and procurement methodology has shaped a meticulously layered manor where vintage pieces have been woven with custom contemporary rugs, furniture and commissioned artworks.

“This invaluable network brings agility, allowing for some beautiful outcomes that contribute to the manor’s ambience and memorability.”

Homage to heritage

The two Colonial Manors (main image and below) have been redesigned to pay homage to their past as British military quarters in the 1880s.

Each two-storey property has three ensuite bedrooms, garden views, and a private pool.

Inside are vintage maps of Singapore and an eclectic collection of artefacts along the walkway that leads to the ‘The Nest,’ a private living space.

The bathrooms are designed to be modern with historic charm featuring dark timber frames and spherical lights.

An outdoor dining area is surrounded by the lush landscape of Capella Singapore, with a barbeque and a dining table, perfect for Singapore’s balmy nights.

And when guests want to head out, a ‘Manor Culturist’ is on hand to craft personalised experiences, from a poolside picnic to a dim sum masterclass led by the culinary team.

Private yoga by the pool, the spa’s signature moon-phase treatments, and a menu of music and art therapy workshops are also on offer.

In addition to the reopening of Capella Singapore’s manors, the hotel group will open a string of new properties in 2025 starting with Taipei in March, Macau in Q2, Kyoto Q4, and a Patina property in Osaka in April.
