Australia’s first dedicated art hotel launches new exhibition with Indigenous Tasmanian artist

Hobart’s Henry Jones Art Hotel has launched a new art exhibition with Indigenous artist, Allan Mansell, who was part of the Stolen Generation.

Hobart’s Henry Jones Art Hotel has launched a new art exhibition with Indigenous artist, Allan Mansell, who was part of the Stolen Generation.

Palawa Connection: Stories with Allan Mansell is an ongoing experience at Henry Jones Art Hotel that will take guests on a journey through Tasmania’s history and Indigenous culture.

The fortnightly weekend experience sees Mansell share his process for creating artwork, drawing from his upbringing as a nomadic Tasmanian Aboriginal and the impact of being part of the Stolen Generation.

Mansell says, “I am a proud First Nations Man of lutruwita, and my main purpose lies in telling Aboriginal stories for young Aboriginal people to see through the historic art of printmaking”.

“My partnership in this new experience is driven by a deep commitment to passing on knowledge, preserving traditions and helping young minds find their voice through art, and I look forward to sharing what I know.”

Mansell has a long connection to the area, studying a Fine Arts Degree at the School of Creative Arts, beside The Henry Jones Art Hotel. His work has since been sold all over the world and hangs in prestigious venues in Europe, Asia and America.

Anyone can attend the experience, regardless if you are staying at the hotel, and there’s an opportunity to buy Mansell’s newest piece, a limited edition print called: Before and After, that represents Hunter Island and nipaluna (Hobart) before Europeans arrived.

The hotel also has an art and history tour that introduces guests to its 400 pieces of contemporary Tasmanian art on display, with all of them available for purchase.
