IHG has announced it’ll open the first luxury hotel in South Australia’s famed wine region, the Barossa Valley.

Scheduled to open in 2028, the 150-room The InterContinental Barossa Resort & Spa will be set among the rolling hills and vineyards of the famed wine region.

The hotel will have a selection of dining options, including a 130-seat signature restaurant “showcasing Australia’s finest flavours and culinary experiences with a contemporary edge”.

There will also be a lounge bar, outdoor garden terrace, the signature ‘Club InterContinental’, a pool, comprehensive day spa and fitness centre.

In addition to this property, IHG has nine other hotels in the pipeline, including Ha Long Bay – set to open later this year.

InterContinental Halong Bay Resort will have 174 rooms and suites, 60 residences and 41 private villas, all with views of Ha Long Bay.

Each room is designed to reflect the resort’s beachfront location, with elements of ancient folklore, “celebrating the dramatic interplay of land, sea, islands and islets that define Ha Long Bay’s captivating landscape”.

Earlier this month, IHG also announced plans to open Six Senses Comporta in Portugal in 2028.

Six Senses Comporta

Six Senses CEO Neil Jacobs says, “Our design approach is about creating spaces that connect people to nature as part of our overall hospitality ethos”.

“Where better to start than by embracing the land’s natural contours of pine forests and sand dunes while drawing on quirks of Comporta, traditions of the Alentejo region, reinterpretation of Portuguese classics, and Six Senses touches that show that luxury doesn’t have to be taken too seriously.”
